Google Pixel 9 Pro Leak Preview: Smaller Size, Flat Display & Next-Gen Tensor G4 AI Chip

Google’s upcoming Pixel 9 Pro is set to bring a major design shift and enhanced AI performance when it launches in October 2024. Leaked renders and prototypes confirm a smaller form factor, flat-edged frame, and a completely flat OLED display—a big departure from the curved aesthetics of previous Pixel Pro models. Google is reportedly positioning the Pixel 9 Pro as a more compact flagship, with all the power and camera excellence of its larger siblings, but in a more user-friendly size.

Flat 6.1-Inch LTPO OLED with Ultra-Slim Bezels

The Pixel 9 Pro is expected to sport a 6.1-inch LTPO OLED panel with QHD+ resolution and 1–120Hz variable refresh rate. The move to a completely flat screen and flat side rails gives the phone an iPhone-like industrial design, while maintaining Google’s unique visual identity. With slim bezels and strong brightness levels (possibly over 2,000 nits), the display will offer punchy visuals, fluid scrolling, and improved touch response.

Tensor G4 Chip: Smarter AI, Improved Efficiency

At the core of the Pixel 9 Pro will be the Tensor G4 chipset, an upgraded version of the G3 with better AI compute performance, GPU efficiency, and overall thermal management. Although still expected to be built on Samsung’s 4nm process, the G4 will enable more powerful on-device AI features through Gemini Nano, such as smart reply generation, transcription, summarization, live translation, and AI-powered photo editing—all without needing cloud access.

Triple Camera Setup with AI Image Tools

The Pixel 9 Pro will continue Google’s legacy of elite smartphone photography with a triple-camera system: a 50MP main sensor, a 48MP ultra-wide, and a 48MP 5x periscope telephoto lens. Enhanced computational photography, Real Tone improvements, and AI tools like Magic Editor, Best Take, Photo Unblur, and Magic Eraser will all be onboard. The front-facing 10.5MP camera will likely support 4K video and face unlock capabilities.

Software and Charging Enhancements

The Pixel 9 Pro will run Android 15 out of the box, with 7 years of feature and security updates. Google may also include 45W wired fast charging (a step up from the previous 30W) and wireless charging around 23W, plus support for reverse wireless charging. A 4,950mAh battery is expected to power the device, with new AI routines that optimize battery life based on usage habits.

Pixel 9 Pro Price and Launch Timeline

The Pixel 9 Pro is set to launch in October 2024, alongside the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel Fold 2. Pricing is expected to start around $999 (₹94,999 in India). With its compact size, powerful camera system, and AI-forward approach, the Pixel 9 Pro will compete directly with the iPhone 16 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S25, and OnePlus 12 in the compact flagship space.Would you like a comparison between Pixel 9 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro, and Galaxy S25 for photography and performance?
